Taman Keramat Residents Want Datum Jelatek Project Stopped

SHAH ALAM -- Several residents of Taman Keramat Tuesday organised a peaceful gathering in front of the entrance of the Selangor State Secretariat building to hand over a memorandum for the Datum Jelatek development project in their area be stopped.
 
Datum Jelatek Action Group chairman, Mohd Salehuddin Abdul Samad said the memorandum was the final attempt by the residents to ask Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali to stop the elite property development project.
 
"The project is a threat to local residents as the luxury condominiums would be open to foreigners from Singapore, Taiwan and Indonesia.
 
"We are not against development if the state government is undertaking an affordable housing project to benefit the locals who include the lower and middle-class," he told reporters after presenting the memorandum to the press secretary to the menteri besar, Radzi Razak.
 
The Datum Jelatek project which was started in 2008 on a 2.4-hectare land next to the Jelatek LRT Station, comprises four blocks of luxury condominiums, hotel, office and shopping centre.
 
The project had been delayed following protests by residents, but was resumed recently.
