Date:2015/01/26
KUCHING -- Efforts are being made to develop land belonging to the Malay and other bumiputera communities in cities and major towns in Sarawak due to its commercial potentials and to preserve its bumiputera ownership status.
State Housing Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said studies had been conducted by the Kox International Consultant, an Australian company, to identify such areas and how best to develop them.
He told the media this after declaring open the office of Permodalan Satok Berhad (PSB), a local company formed four months ago to undertake the development of Malay land in the Satok area here to become a new commercial hub in the city.
"To develop such land will obviously require enormous capital and PSB is a special vehicle for the Satok project.
"We are pooling our resources together either as individuals or with the government's assistance," he said, adding that the 1.54-ha project would be developed for real estate development through several phases over a seven-year period.
Abang Johari said PSB was investing RM400 million in the project, which would start by year's end to become another iconic development in the city.
PSB partners in the project included Sarawak Baitulmal, state Land Coustody and Development Authority (LCDA), Hikmah Sarawak and Faradale Development Sdn.,
He said LCDA would conduct a study to come up with a masterplan for a more orderly and well coordinated development of the area.
Also present at the function were Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf, PSB chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Datuk Husain and LCDA representative Datuk Mustapha Lamat.
Abang Johari said other similar projects on the drawing board were the Bandar Nangka Baru in Old Oya Road in Sibu and Pekan Selirik in Kapit.
